Privacy Policy

This policy explains how we handle your personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Last updated June 2026

1. Who is responsible

Playing For Pies is operated by [Registered entity name] (ABN [ABN]). We are responsible for the personal information we collect through the site.

2. What we collect

We collect information you give us and information created as you use the site, including:

  • your name and email address when you create an account or buy a hat;
  • your hat number, chosen charity, and challenge history;
  • payment details, which are handled directly by our payment provider (we do not store full card numbers);
  • basic technical data such as device and browser information.

3. How we use it

We use your information to set up and run your account, process hat purchases and challenge payments, pass donations to your chosen charity, provide support, keep the site secure, and meet our legal obligations.

4. Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered with and stored by Stripe under their security standards, not on our servers. We receive a token and limited details needed to charge a saved card for challenges you authorise.

5. Cookies and similar technology

We use a small number of cookies and local storage entries to keep you signed in and to run the site. See our Cookie Policy for detail.

6. Who we share it with

We share information only as needed to run the service: with our payment provider (Stripe), our hosting and database providers, and the food charities you choose (for the purpose of remitting donations). We do not sell your personal information.

7. Overseas storage

Some of our providers store data on servers outside Australia. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

8. Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect your information and keep it only for as long as we need it for the purposes above or as required by law.

9. Access, correction and complaints

You can ask to access or correct your personal information by emailing us. If you have a privacy concern, contact us first and we will work to resolve it. You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
